As mentioned — a creative coder/design called Tim Rodenbröker writes a blog and series of tutorials about processing. This is the result of his animated text tutorial of which I've seen lots of interesting things been made that are similar.
This is made using p5.js in canvas-sketch which I am learning to structure — it uses sin waves to copy certain parts of a graphic off screen and paste them in a different place.
These trigonometry methods are something I've not explored too much yet — I think it would be good to go through the p5 reference and try and make a piece based on a few different methods — to learn the methods etc.
